Melissa Leapman: Mastering Color Knitting: Simple Instructions for Stranded, Intarsia, and Double Knitting

For an advanced beginner like me the book contained enough to cover all my color knitting desires. I did't read everything in detail but got an overall impression of all the techniques possible - I will read them when I need it (for example the chapter about intarsia, not so interestet into that at the moment).

I liked the pattern 'library' best - used some of the charts for this project.

Most of the projects in the book are nice but are explicit and time consuming ones so I wouldn't knit one of them (except for the small stuff like the hats).

All in all a small encyclopedia for color knitting adequate for my needs, I bought the book in case I would like to design or modify a pattern according to color knittin and this book will definitively do the job for me.

Jetzt fange ich auch noch an meine Strickbücher zu bloggen ;) - aber für den Fall dass sich jemand überlegt Bücher anzuschaffen, die man weder im Buchladen noch bei amazon einsehen kann, will ich ein paar Überlegungen teilen um die Entscheidung zu erleichtern. 

Ich habe dieses Buch auf gut Glück über den Buchladen bestellt, und Dank eines Büchergutscheines hat mich das Ganze auch nur 4 Euro gekostet. Dass das Buch in Englisch ist stört mich nicht; noch dazu da es leicht verständlich geschrieben ist

Für meine Bedürfnisse ist der Inhalt genau richtig. Es gibt grundlegende Information zum Doppelstrick, Intarsia und fair isle inclusive Tips zur Farbwahl oder Führung und Verstechen der Fäden. Die meisten Beispielprojekte fand ich hübsch aber zu aufwändig, wer sich also das Buch nur wegen der enthaltenen Strickmuster kaufen möchte ... das lohnt meiner Meinung nach nicht. Am besten gefallen hat mir die kleine Sammlung an möglichen fair isle Strickmuster, nach Größe/Höhe sortiert; und die kleine Übersicht über zweifarbige Zopfmuster, die ich sicherlich einmal für eigenen Projekte verwenden werde. Insgesamt ein kleines Kompendium welches meinen Bedürfnissen völlig genügt, aber eher als ein Nachschlagwerk zu verwenden.

Oh my, another one in nynorsk which got me into a little bit vocabulary trouble and took more time to read (but it was worth it). Nice idea of writing a book - you could call it collection of short stories if you would like, but in this case the stories are connected to each other like an invisible spider's web (you'll find some of the characters again). The center of them all is the appartment complex in Odda, and they spread around like bees around a beehive (like the title 'Beehive song' says). You can read one, skip the next, read them from back to forth. Some are more fetching than others, some are strange, some touching, some odd and some just crazy. At the end they all come together buzzing in your head.

Eine tolle Idee um ein Buch zu schreiben - viele Kurzgeschichten mit gleichem Hintergrund zu sammeln und in einem Buch vereinigen. Klingt eher langweilig, ist es in diesem Fall aber überhaupt nicht. Alle Geschichten sind ineinander verwoben, und zwar so geschickt, dass man manchmal mehr Zusammenhänge vermutet als es vielleicht sogar gibt. Dadurch dass die Handlungsstränge nicht allzu lang sind, fällt das Lesen leicht; und wem eine Geschichte nicht gefällt, läßt sie weg, denn sie ist ja für das Verständnis der weiteren Handlung(en) nicht wichtig. Ein guter Schmöker für zwischendurch!

Gaute Heivoll: Før jeg brenner ned

Picked this book out in a hurry in a bookstore in Oslo. The story sounded interesting and it was from a Norwegian author, got a bookprice in 2012, so I bought it.

My expectations were not dissappointed. I liked the wriing style of the author, easy to read and fetching at the same time. He mixes up the stories of the pyromaniac of his hometown and his own autobiography, jumps between the timelines and characters which is sometimes confusing but also prevents the reader getting bored.

The autobiographic strands were sometimes really hurting me, the story of his father dieing from cancer was painful and I was a little bit shocked by the nearness he allows the reader (I don't think I would tell that openly about that family matters).

I would have wished he could have discovered and prescribed the nature and the inner world of the pyromaniac as good as his own, but by the time he was writing the book there was no one left to help him with that except some witnesses from the past and old documents. So there is fiction and truth, and both blend into this story you sometimes can't separate them.

Dieses Buch war sehr schnell ausgelesen - erstaunlicherweise, da ich ja in letzter Zeit kaum zum Lesen gekommen bin. Aber die Geschichte war fesselnd; und das Buch ein Glücksgriff, nachdem ich es (mit Zeitdruck im Nacken) spontan aus dem Regal der Buchhhandlung in der Aker Brygge gezogen hatte.

Die Geschichte spannt sich in einem weiten Bogen und ist sowohl autobiographisch als auch Fiktion. 1978 zündete ein Pyromane innerhalb kurzer Zeit mehrere Gebäude in der Heimatgemeinde des Authors an, und wurde am Tag nach seiner (des Autors) Taufe gefasst. Die Geschichte versucht die damaligen Geschehnisse zu rekonstruieren (was bei wenigen Zeitzeugen und spärlichen Dokumenten schwierig gewesen sein dürfte) und in Zusammenhang mit der Autobiographie des Autors zu bringen; und erstreckt sich so von den 1950er Jahren bis 2007. Das führt beim Lesen zu einigen (gewollten?) Verwirrungen, da es keine chronologische Ordung gibt. Einigen private Einblicke waren mir zu nah und zu schmerzhaft (was vielleicht auch so beabsichtigt war), aber insgesamt war es ein fesselndes und sehr gut geschriebenes Lesevergnügen.
